ISSCR 2022 conference details

The 2022 ISSCR Annual Meeting, co-sponsored by STEMCELL Technologies, gathers the world's leading scientists, clinicians, business leaders, ethicists, and educators from more than 65 countries. Together, we celebrate 20 years of excellence, advances, and contributions of stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Discovery, careers, advocacy, inspiration, new business, and relationships start here.

“The Annual Meeting is always a highlight of my year,” ISSCR President Melissa Little said. “It’s a chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues and a source of creativity and inspiration.” The society also is celebrating its 20th year and will host a celebration of scientific excellence, achievements, and breakthroughs over the last two decades.

ISSCR 2022 will showcase unpublished, breaking research exploring new technologies, and clinical applications of stem cell research and regenerative medicine – all while allowing attendees to choose their own experience whether in person or virtual. All in person attendees also will have access to the ISSCR’s virtual meeting platform, which will host scientific sessions on demand for 30 days. For the second time, the program is designed around five core themes that are designed to help attendees find the latest science and new collaborators in specific research areas more easily. All registration options available via the event website.

Extract from the ISSCR President’s Letter

The ISSCR President H. Little, PhD (Murdoch Children's Research Institute and University of Melbourne, Australia) announced news of the upcoming event on the organization’s website: “In the last 20 years, our field has reached a transformative moment. It’s evident in the 2022 program; one that uniquely and comprehensively spans advances in stem cell science and regenerative medicine. To help attendees navigate the breadth of the conference, while adding more speakers, we’ve expanded the ‘meeting within a meeting’ format ISSCR introduced in 2020. The 2022 Annual Meeting is organized in five theme tracks, designed to help our global community find and connect with scientists with similar research interests.

While many of us are keen to meet again in person, we know not every member of our global community may be able to travel. That’s why I am so delighted the ISSCR will also deliver a virtual experience for our 2022 Annual Meeting – the first hybrid annual meeting for the society. Regardless of how you attend – in person or virtually – attendees will connect through one common platform, allowing real-time global collaboration. Poster presenters have the option to present in-person, virtually, and in both formats.

I look forward to seeing all of you in San Francisco! The future starts here.”

ISSCR 2022 track sessions

Five meetings in one

The scientific program is designed around five tracks to help you find and connect with researchers who share your scientific interests. Each of the five tracks will be explored during four concurrent track sessions and a plenary session.

These sessions allow you to dive into a focused topic from across the spectrum of stem cell research. Each session, framed by a brief topic overview, includes two invited speakers whose work highlights leading research in the field along with up to five abstract-selected speakers who collectively highlight some of the most exciting and current work on the topic. These sessions are held in parallel and attendees are encouraged to move between sessions to hear talks of interest. Organized by the ISSCR Annual Meeting Program Committee, five core tracks will be carried throughout the meeting with four concurrent sessions in each track.

ISSCR Track Highlights

Here, a selection of the speakers in two of the five tracks are listed:

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

Stem Cells: From Development to Therapy (Sponsored By: WiCell)
StemJournal senior editor Agnete Kirkeby, PhD (University of Copenhagen, Denmark) will be one of the presenters in this track, along with Gordon Keller, PhD (University Health Network, Canada). The session will cover the use of developmental biology for developing stem cells as cell therapies or finding molecules that alter cell function using stem cells.

CELLULAR IDENTITY

Cellular Identity Towards Translational Medicine (Sponsored By: BlueRock Therapeutics)
StemJournal associate editor Joseph Wu, MD (Stanford University, USA) will be one of the presenters in this track, along with Sally Temple, PhD (Neural Stem Cell Institute, USA). The session will cover characterization of the identities of cells derived from stem cells to mimic endogenous tissues, in order to serve as a tool for drug discovery or as a cellular source for replacement therapy.

Spheroids and Organoids (Sponsored By: Cell Microsystems)
StemJournal board member Jun Wu, PhD (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, USA) will be one of the presenters in this track session, along with Kunyoo Shin, PhD (Seoul National University, Korea). The session will cover analysis of three-dimensional structures generated from stem cells as a means to analyze early embryogenesis, tissue development and homeostasis, and as a tool in translational medicine.

StemJournal will be exhibiting at ISSCR 2022 and we look forward to meeting you in San Francisco!
